Fundacja Polska - Haiti

Poland-Haiti Foundation was established as our reaction to the tragic earthquake, that haunted Haiti on January 12th, 2010, causing terrifying losses. Spontaneous engagement of people deeply touched by this tragedy effected in „Solidarity Day” media campaigned, organized in cooperation with Caritas Polska, engaging actors and sportspeople. Our most respected and appreciated supporters were Polish President, Mr. Lech Kaczynski, and His Wife, Maria Kaczynska. Hundreds of thousands of Poles engaged and, thanks to their generosity, we managed to collect 4 million zlotych (1,3 mln $).

Foundation was officialy-registered on February 19th, 2010, and Zofia Pinchinat-Witucka, half-Pole, half-Haitian, became Foundation’s president.

Our goal is to support Haitians in long-term reconstruction and development of their country and we are deeply convinced, that education Is a corner stone of every developed society. Therefore we aim to focus on projects related to education, supporting civil society and promoting Haitian art and culture. We hope to shape the future cultural, scientific and business elite and to encourage young Haitians to lead an active life, shaping reality they live in.

In order to achieve these goals, we are to lead several educational, cultural and entrepreneurial projects.  So far we focus on rebuilding an equal-opportunity school.

We are aware that we face a challenging, long-lasting and complicated project which, beside financial means, requires various competences. Therefore we appreciate strong support provided by the public administration, business and media circles in Poland. Simultaneously,  we aim to cooperate closely with the local society in order to make local inhabitants involved and jointly-responsible for the school project. We have already asked Haitian Ministry of Education as well as the local municipality in Jacmel for cooperation. In April our representatives – Zofia Pinchinat-Witucka, Giustina Magistretti and Marta Titaniec (from Caritas Polska) are in Haiti, visiting Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and Casal with the first survey tour.
